Cities Along Middle Reaches of Yangtze River Agree on 63 Cooperation Items

The 10th Conference of Provincial Capital Cities Along the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River opened in Changsha on July 29, 2024. Four capital cities—Hubei's Wuhan, Hunan's Changsha, Anhui's Hefei, and Jiangxi's Nanchang, along with 12 other observation cities, jointly signed an agreement on key cooperation matters for 2024, which includes 63 specific items across six major aspects.

The 63 cooperation items include 10 ones of transportation and connectivity; 3 of sci-tech cooperation; 11 of industrial development; 6 of market integration; 5 of ecology and environmental protection; and, 28 of services related to people's wellbeing. For instance, the member cities will: build a river-crossing tunnel linking Wuxue of Hubei Province and Ruichang of Jiangxi Province; advance interconnection of their national highways crossing the Yangtze River trunk line; and, enhance sharing and exchange of overseas intellectual property protection (IPR) information to form a transregional joint force to strengthen overseas IPR.

The public security authorities of Wuhan, Changsha, Hefei, and Nanchang cities reached a framework agreement on police affairs cooperation, further reinforcing coordination and collaboration of cross-regional police affairs arrangement and command.

The cities along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River are important parts of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The first Conference of Provincial Capital Cities Along the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River was held in Wuhan in 2013. Since then, the session has been held annually, with Wuhan, Changsha, Hefei, and Nanchang serving as the rotating hosts.

A number of important cooperation documents have been signed since the first session, including "Wuhan Consensus", "Changsha Declaration", "Hefei Outline", and "Nanchang Action".
